Dress no Kakikata (4A09)

Date: 11/12/2018

Good morning everyone. I am Lin Pui Yan from class 4A.

Do you like watching animation? Have you ever thought of drawing your favourite character or creating one yourself? When we are creating a character, not only do we have to think of his or her appearance and personality, but also the clothes and dressing style of the characters. You may think that designing clothes and dresses is difficult. If that is the case, the book I am going to share with you today may be helpful.

The title of the book is “Dress no Kakikata” (Japanese). It is written by Kyachi, an outstanding illustrator on the Japanese online community for artists called “pixiv”. Delicate and beautiful illustrations make the book attractive. In the first chapter, the author introduces six basic models of dresses. For example, an A-line skirt and a fish tail skirt. The author points out the characteristics of different models and explains in detail the movement and folds of dresses when there is wind and how the characters’ poses affect them. She also gives readers tips on how to draw lace and fabric.

In the following chapters, Kyachi introduces the changing styles and trends of dresses in the past centuries, including dresses of people of different social status and ethnic groups, such as maids and the rich. She also explains the features of dresses that appear in fantasy. She also teaches readers how to draw accessories and show texture and shade.

I love drawing and I often create my own original characters. When I am designing their clothes, I always use this book. The tips and detailed explanations are very useful. So, if you are interested in creating your own character or designing clothes, this book is a wonderful choice. The book is truly worth reading. You can find it in bookstores.

I hope all of you will enjoy drawing. Thank you.
