My Pledge to Act 2020

Date: 29/09/2020

Principal's Message

Good Morning teachers and students.

Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it is called the “present”. I am still grateful that a new school term commences and all new-comers of S1 are highly welcomed to join us.

“My Pledge to Act” is a yearly goal-setting practice for you at the beginning of an academic year. The theme this year is “Be Grateful and Treasure What We Have, Stay Positive and Optimistic”. It is known that the emergence of the COVID-19 virus has left many people feeling vulnerable, hopeless and disconnected during uncertain times. These sentiments are depressing, or even contagious. Senses of gratitude and positive energy are exactly what we need now.

Focus on the present we have. Many people are still day-in-day-out fighting the virus and making our lives easier. Medical personnel in hospitals, researchers in laboratories, street cleaners, your parents, you and I, and all walks of life are working hard for the fabric of society. While the selfless and empathetic actions of many Hong Kong people are to be well-appreciated, a tiny deed like washing hands regularly and wearing masks properly already brings tremendous blessings to others.

There are also inspiring stories out of Hong Kong. Sharing is caring. A 12-year-old British boy, equipped with IT skills in the new age like you, has created a stop-motion animation to make homestayers smile. In a day his video received more than 600K views. In a less wealthy place like the Philippines, a young lady started the “Milk Giving Project”. She organized to send 200 boxes of milk to 420 individuals, including senior citizens and children with disabilities. It shall be understood that milk might not be accessible to some faraway towns during this period of lockdown measures.

You may read the article “22 Uplifting Stories From Around the World” to see how people in different countries face the coronavirus squarely. The audio picture book named “Together, We Fight the Virus” is locally produced to introduce the virus and the precautionary measures we can take. The messages are conveyed in a vivid way and that shows the power of creativity in enlightening others.

A new school year has just begun. Although the situation is going to be tough, count your blessings, and think about what positive changes to yourself and your surrounding you are able to make. Don’t hesitate to share your ideas with others. May your days in HKCWCC filled with happiness and hope.

Thank you.
