Principal’s Report on 40th Anniversary Speech Day 13/12/2018

Guest of Honour Professor Frederick MA, Supervisor Ms. LAM, School Managers, Distinguished Guests, Parents, Teachers and Students, Good afternoon.

It is of our greatest honour to have Professor MA to officiate here at our celebrations today.

The Education Theme for the year 2017-2018 was “Enhancing Students’ Learning Capacity and Commitment”.  In our school-based curriculum, we continued to provide step-up programmes for high achievers in senior forms, and a group teaching strategy was adopted in teaching the S4-S6 core subjects.  There were also after-school learning support programmes being arranged at junior levels.

We have strengthened the support in learning and teaching by upgrading school facilities.  The IP phone PA system was installed to enhance communication in the school campus.  The innovative HKCWCC mobile application was introduced for the first time to facilitate eBooking and eNotices.  Furthermore, the Learning Support Grant was fully utilized to provide guidance support for SEN students and to promote students’ personal growth.  The Career Life Planning education programmes had also enhanced students’ self-understanding and development as well as career exploration.

In line with our school’s long tradition, students were encouraged to participate in various school and community services, like the CYC and Ming Yue elderly services.  Students had had valuable experiences through study tours to Shanghai, Taipei, Zhuhai, Inner Mongolia and Malaysia where their cultural horizons and general knowledge were broadened.

In the last academic year, fund-raising events, such as the Walkathon, Charity Badminton Tournament and ‘Cooking with Chef Kit’ were held.  We would like to express our gratitude to all donors for their generosity towards our school’s redevelopment.

On the academic side, in the 2018 HKDSE examination, of the 13 subjects taken, the average subject pass rate was 99.0% for all our 162 Secondary 6 students.  Ninety-two percent of the students attained the minimum university admission requirement of ‘33222’, which had broken our school’s record.  The highest level 4+ subject was Economics at 78.3%.  Ninety-seven percent of our S6 graduates were admitted to local and overseas universities and other tertiary institutions, of which 86% of them were offered degree courses.

Our students actively participated in various inter-school competitions and the results here were also pleasing.  We won more than 400 individual and group prizes in the last academic year.

Two of our students LAU Lap Hei (6C) and SZE Po Lung (6A) were honoured with the 2017-2018 Ten Outstanding Youths of the Eastern District Award.

A team of two S6 students led by our THS teacher Mrs. NG won the Championship of the 2017 GTTP International Research Award.  A team of four S4 physics students won the first runner-up and Best Run Award in the 2017/2018 Hong Kong GreenMech Contest.  The team was led by our Vice-principal Mr. YEUNG to represent Hong Kong to participate in the 2018 World GreenMech Contest in Taiwan in July 2018, winning the Silver Medal in the Senior High School Division.  Five of our S5 Economics students won the championship of the 19th Consumer Cultural Study Award (senior section) co-organized by the Consumer Council and the EDB.

You may refer to the 2017-2018 Annual Report and the Speech Day Bulletin for a more complete picture of our students’ achievements in Mathematics, Science, the Speech Festival, table-tennis, basketball, and athletics competitions.

Our congratulations go to our alumnus Dr. Tse Tak Sun.  He was our 1988 Form 7S graduate.  Being one of the pioneers in transradial coronary intervention in Hong Kong, he received the 16th World Outstanding Chinese Award in August this year.  This award recognizes those outstanding contributions and achievements of Chinese professionals in different industries around the globe.

Our school is reaching a major milestone; with this year being our school’s 40th anniversary.  I would like to use this opportunity to thank our school’s sponsoring body, the Hong Kong Chinese Women’s Club and our IMC, for their full support.  I would also like to thank our school founders, previous Supervisors and Principals, former and current colleagues, parents and alumni, who without their dedicated and concerted efforts, our school would not have accumulated so many remarkable achievements. Finally, we hope our school redevelopment project can proceed according to schedule.  Our school will continue to grow sustainably and achieve further progress in the future.

Thank you!
