NOVA Progress Report – 13/11/2017

I am pleased to report on the progress of our school’s redevelopment project.  On the 6th October we were informed by the EDB that or NOVA project had been upgraded to a Category B+ project.  This is a big step towards the fruition of this milestone in our school’s history.  The next step in this process is to submit our proposal to the Eastern District Council for consultation in February 2018 and if all goes well, to the Public Works Subcommittee in April 2018.

Hopefully final funding approval will be granted by the Hong Kong Legislative Council Finance Committee in May 2018.  If all goes according to plan, the earliest date of commencement of construction will be the end of 2018 with an estimated date of completion in the year 2021.

To raise the HKD25 million top up funding needed for the redevelopment we are grateful for the dedicated efforts of our school sponsoring body, our IMC, alumni, parents, teachers and students.  We have now raised a total of 4.5 million dollars.  However we still have further to go and need continued support from our stakeholders.

With reference to the open letter of our School Supervisor on the 24th January 2017, we have invited all donors to support our project and in doing so they will also be able to have their generous donation remembered in a unique way.  Special plaques of appreciation will be etched with the names of donors and these will be permanently affixed to a special celebration wall.  Donations can be made as individuals, groups of alumni and even graduating classes or year levels.  For further details please refer to the November school curricular.

Our fundraising efforts in the past academic year of 2016-17 included our Alumni Singing Concert, the second Walkathon which was held on the Peak and the 30th Anniversary School Band Concert.

We have also planned a series of fundraising events this year.  We will hold our third Walkathon on the 16th December and a Badminton fund-raising competition that same afternoon.  The Hong Kong Chinese Women’s Club will conduct a flag selling event on the 27th December.
