Principal’s Message – 23/3/2010
Good morning everyone,
It has been almost a month’s time since you received your first term exam. results. Have you set some achievable targets to improve your results in the second term? I keep reminding you of the importance of the language skills. Have you tried to read more and write more? Don’t idle away the time. For most of your lesson time, English is the medium of instruction. So you should try your best to speak in English during lessons, no matter whether you are having discussions in the classrooms or doing experiments in the laboratories. Practice makes perfect. If you don’t practise, how can you speak the language fluently? Besides English, you should also pay attention to Putonghua. Actually, teenagers nowadays are luckier as they started learning Putonghua when they were in primary school. You should practise speaking Putonghua as there are many opportunities of using it in both Hong Kong and the mainland. A good command of English and Putonghua is definitely an advantage in your future career.
Speaking of results and achievements, again many of our students made outstanding achievements in the past few months. To name a few, two F.6A students were selected as 2009-2010 Ten Eastern District Outstanding Youths. The Girls Grade C Basketball Team won the championship in Division One. Some of our S.3, S.4 and F.6 students got brilliant results in the Eastern District Public Speaking Contest. They won the overall championship in the junior section and championship in the senior section. Our Mathematics team won the 1st runners-up in the Regional Winners (Hong Kong Region) of the 27th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad. Congratulations to all these winners. For details, please refer to the students’ achievements of our school homepage.
This year, many educational tours are organised and planned so that we can put our educational theme ‘Broadening our vision’ into practice. In November last year, 18 S.4 and F.6 students studying Chinese History went to the River Pearl Delta. In the coming few months, more tours will be organized. 18 S.4 students who take Geography will go to Sabah in Malaysia during the Easter holidays. 21 F.6 students studying Economics will go to Guangdong in mid May; 60 students will go to the Shanghai Expo 2010 in July and the School Band will go to Taiwan during the summer vacation. If you are one of these students, don’t miss any chance of widening your horizon and broadening your vision on your tour.
Lastly, you should take notice of the movement of the sandstorm from Northern China. Because of the sandstorm, the Air Pollution Index reached a terribly high record of 500 yesterday. It can seriously affect our health. You should avoid outdoor sports activities. Also, different kinds of influenza will be very active in the coming few months. Do take good care of your health and mind your personal hygiene. That’s all I’d like to share with you today.
