A Sport for Every Kid – Fung Long Yi(4D06)
Good morning, everyone.I’m Fung Long Yi from 4D.
Today,I’d like to share my ideas about a book called’A sport for every kid’,written by Nicole Sperekas.
Nicole is a child psychologist and also an enthusiast of many sports.
She believes that most children, regardless of their athletic abilities, have the potential to enjoy a modest success in sports.
This book can be divided mainly into two parts.
The first part contains a general introduction to different sports.
There are a number of preliminary issues and questions that we should consider before learning each particular sport.
With reference to some fact sheets on 51 sports, there are myriads of sports that we can choose from.Everything from indoor games to outdoor games, from individual sports to team sports,it requires speed and agility, endurance and good concentration. We can scrutinize this section in order to familiarize ourselves with various sports.
By researching about sports and understanding the different physical and mental elements required for each sport,we can find the best sports for us.
The second part talks about sportsmenship.
There are a number of issues and situations that arise from playing sports.Situations like athletic depression, conflict with coach,burn-out and lack of the mood in competitions, requires much of our knowledge, sensitivity and thoughtfulness. When we face these problems, this book is of no doubt a useful guide to help us deal with any possible dilemmas when sporting.
Besides the physical benefits, there are also numerous emotional benefits of doing exercise and fitness.Guess what they are?Regular exercise can help reduce depression and stress. It can help increase our self-esteem and self-confidence,too.The confidence that comes from learning a sport can benefit our other life activities.Of course,self-confidence helps us face new challenges. It is often said that sports build one’s character traits, for instance, strengthen self-discipline,personal responsibility, loyalty and perseverance. No pain,no gain.Losing a game can still be a positive experience to us.Competition doesn’t always mean being hostile to others,as it,to some extent, can also refer to self-competition.For example,we can work hard to improve our time, distance, weight and other aspects of performance when sporting.
It deserves our investment of time and effort in sports.I hope all of us can enjoy playing sports, which is like an epitome of life, something that includes success along with failures. That’s the end of my book sharing today.Thank you!
