Horrible Geography- Storm Weather – Cheung Ka Ho(3B26)
Good Morning everyone, I am Cheung Ka Ho from 3B. Today I would like to introduce a book to all of you. It’s about Geography. It is called “Horrible Geography – Stormy Weather” which is written by Anita Ganeri. It is one of the books from the series of Horrible Geography which consists of 14 books. It covers 11 chapters, and all of them are not horrible but very interesting and attractive. It is not difficult for me to understand about some difficult concepts in Geography. And it also teaches me some important concepts, for example the structure of the atmosphere and the functions of it, that I have never learnt before in an easy way. The second chapter, which is called “Killer Storm”, impresses me a lot. It introduces a storm which happened in Central America in 1998. I can know how heartless a storm is. A storm could cause many disastrous losses. Thousands of people were killed and millions of people were left homeless. As a Secondary three student this year, Geography is a new subject to me and it is the first book that I have read about Geography. It is an excellent and well-written book. If you think a Geography book which should be full of words, then you are totally wrong. This book does not have many words. It explains the concepts in a short paragraph and in short sentences. You not only get the basic concepts easily, but also you won’t feel bored. Let me give you an example. Do you know what a storm means and what we should do when a storm comes? In this book, there are many pictures describing what a storm is and explaining the reasons what and why we should do in a certain way when a storm comes. The diagrams and cartoons are funny. They let me learn amusingly and it sounds great. If you want to know about the ideas in depth, you may refer to some other books. But I think at least this book is very helpful to me because I can grasp the basic knowledge which helps me a lot to understand the geographical concepts during Geography lessons more easily. After I have read the book, I know that Geography has never been horrible but very interesting. If you feel interested in it, you may borrow it from the school library. That’s the end of my book sharing. Thank You!
