Year End Review – 14/7/2008

 Good morning everyone,

I know that 33 students are absent today. Do you know why? They are members of the school band and they are in Beijing now. They are one of the Hong Kong teams that are participating in the 2008 Beijing International Band Festival this year. Besides that, 28 F.4 to F.6 Geography students will also go on a study trip to Qingyuan at the end of July. Some other students will go abroad on exchange programmes and tours this summer. For these students, it is a good chance to widen their horizons. Actually, we would like to provide more chances for more students to go on different study tours in the future.

Next, I would like to announce two pieces of good news.

First, two of our F.6 students have been admitted to university through the Early Admission Scheme. One is 6S Chan Yat Chun, who has been admitted to the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the other is 6S Leung Man Fung, admitted to the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong.

Second, one of our S.2 students, Lai Hon Kei, has been selected to be one of the participants representing Hong Kong in the “2008 Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition”. The event will take place in Thailand in October.

Congratulations to these three students!

The 2nd term and annual exam results have been displayed in the covered playground. Please have a look. The pass percentage of most of the subjects is higher than 90%, but the credit percentage is not high enough. Students should aim at getting more credits in order to enter university.

Nine teachers and our school social worker, Miss Pang, are leaving us this year. Mr. & Mrs. Irwin and Mr. Fung are retiring, but they will be back on some days; Mrs. Wong, our B.S. and Commerce teacher, and Mrs. Kwok, our T&T and general guidance teacher are taking early retirement; Mrs. Yeung, our English teacher and Mr. Chan, our Geography teacher are resigning because of personal reasons; Miss Hui, our English teacher and Mr. Cheng will leave after completing their contract, but Mr. Cheng will still be the string team instructor next year. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for their effort in teaching, the care they have shown to our students and the support they have given to the school throughout their years of service. Their retirement and resignation will be a loss to our students. But, in return, you can strive hard and achieve progress and self-improvement, which is the way you should thank your teachers. I would like to wish them all good health and a happy life in their future.

We will watch the Olympic Games this summer, but you should have good time management. You should make use of the summer vacation to read more books and catch up with your work. Don’t idle away the time. The next academic year will be the thirtieth anniversary of the school. The school will be painted in the summer vacation. HKCWCC is going to be thirty years old. We will have a lot of anniversary activities. Some students have already designed the anniversary logo, started painting the lockers, and so on. Next year will be a busy year. Let’s get ready and make good preparations. Thank you.
