Principal’s Message – 15/12/2005
Good Morning, Teachers & Students,
The first day of our 2005-2006 Annual Athletic Meet was held successfully last Friday.
There were 803 competitors. This record was the second highest in the school’s history. The highest one was during our 25th Anniversary Year, 2 years ago. I am happy with your keen participation this year though it’s not an anniversary year.
On the First Day of the Athletic Meet, 10 old school records were broken. These 10 new records showed me that my students are go-getters and they try hard to be good competitors.
Good competitors should have sportsmanship. There was a very good example of sportsmanship that I’d like to mention here. It involved a girl who took part in the Girls Grade B Hurdle event. She fell down at the second last hurdle. Encouraged by teachers and spectators, the girl stood up from where she had fallen, cleared the last hurdle and completed the race. She not only won a roar of applause but also the chance to enter into the Final. When I went to congratulate this girl, she burst into tears with happiness and pride.
Well, students, I’m sure you witnessed the scene that I have just mentioned. You should learn from this girl. Remember, “the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle”. As I have told you before, “during the process of trying, there are chances of failure”. It is important for us “to stand up where we have fallen”. So, let’s try hard again tomorrow, the Second Day of the Meet, and also all the days after tomorrow.
For your information, I’d like to announce the scores that the 4 houses got on the First Day of the Meet:
Topaz: 373
Emerald : 374
Sapphire: 402
Ruby: 451
The competition is keen. All of you who have already completed your events, please join the Cheering Teams to encourage your fellow House members. Showing your appreciation can encourage the competitors. Please be involved and supportive.
Tomorrow, there will be 9 secondary schools and 8 primary schools competing in the Invitation Relay. Besides, 11 Parent-Child Teams will take part in their Relay. Please be good hosts. If you meet your Primary School principals & teachers, and any other guests and parents, please show your courtesy. In the changing rooms, please make way for the guests and parents. Please also show your appreciation to encourage these guest and parent competitors.
It will be very cold tomorrow. Please be sensible and dress warmly.
May I wish you another day of success tomorrow. Thank you!
