Principal’s Speech – 29/11/2005
At the Inauguration Ceremony of Students’ Association
Good Morning, Teachers & Students,
First of all, I would like to convey my appreciation to the 2004-2005 Committee Members of the Students’ Association. Through their effort and support, the school’s main theme of last year, which was “A Harmonious and Positive School Life”, was brought to life. The most impressive programme run by the SA last year was the Life-wide Learning Day II held on 4th April, 2005. The Day served 3 purposes, which were: to show respect for our teachers, to show our love for our school and to raise money for the Tsunami victims. We are glad that all the 3 aims were successfully achieved. I can still remember how everyone willingly helped to clean the classrooms at the end of the day, showing how much we care for our school.
The new Committee Members of this year’s Students’ Association have just been inaugurated today. Our congratulations go to all the new committee members. Your main task this year is to help your schoolmates “to care and to strive for improvement” , that is to accomplish our school’s main theme for this year.
We need to care about the people around us, to care about our family, our school, our community, our Hong Kong, our motherland as well as our whole world. What we should do this year is to show – we care.
“Caring” also means exerting all our efforts to achieving the objectives of our work and studies.
During the process of trying, we understand there are chances of failure. However, “The key to success is to learn from failure”. We should accept our weaknesses and move from weaknesses to strengths. This explains why the second part of our main theme this year is “to strive for improvement”.
Students, you have just completed and known the results of the 1st Term Tests. You should know your weaknesses and your strengths. Please try your best to stand up from where you have fallen and to improve yourselves.
There are 2 big school events ahead in December. One is the “Interflow Concert wiht Schools from Singapore” to be held on 7th December from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Due to the limited number of seats, I’m sorry that we can’t invite all of you and your parents to attend. The 2nd big event is the “Annual Athletic Meet” to be held on 9th and 16th December. There will then be no limit of seats, and your parents are all invited.
Both these two big events will only be successfully held through the collaboration and co-operation of the whole school. I hope the new Committee Members of Students’ Association can lead their schoolmates to better themselves and to take part in all the school events enthusiastically and successfully.
May I wish the new Committee Members of Students’ Association every success in their work and a fruitful year ahead.
Thank you.
